Education Plan


ADOT is currently developing a Bicycle and Pedestrian Education Program Plan to inform bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists about rules of the road, laws, and safety. Envisioned as broad based, comprehensive, and understandable, the Education Plan will target pedestrians and bicycle riders of all ages, motorists, community leaders, public facility administrators, and facility designers.

Potential Program areas include:

• Safety Education Program
• Safe Routes to School Program
• Bicycle/Pedestrian Facility Design
  Training Program
• Safety Awareness Campaign
• Data Archive

Safety and education campaigns may involve training sessions, published materials, workshops, and spot enforcement programs.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has developed several education guides to help you walk or bike safely.  These are:

• Learn scientific methods of riding competently   in traffic
• Learn how to predict and deal with hazardous
  situations before they occur
• Learn how to handle situations should they   occur
• Learn correct bike and helmet fit · Learn
  Arizona bicycle laws
• Learn basic bicycle maintenance and road   emergency repair
   (2 day comprehensive course only)

Pima County and the City of Tucson sponsor free bicycle classes.  Classes are conducted by L.A.B. League Cycling Instructors. website
